Shoulder Wrap

My husband wanted a wrap that he could place around his shoulders as sometimes they feel chilled.

I found various patterns for shawls for men but he did not like them. He wanted something that resembled a scarf but wider.

Prayer shawls were my next idea however they tend to be made with heavier weight yarn. I wanted to use the yarn I had which is mainly DK yarn ( 3 Light/8ply).  Prayer shawls tend  longer than he wanted although I could alter the length.

I showed my husband that patterns and he was not keen on them so I kept looking. Then I found something that I thought would work.

Basic Beginner Crochet Scarf

The written pattern is the links below the video Written Pattern
I sorted out my yarn and asked my husband to choose from the colours I had. I worked up a swatch to show him what the pattern would look like. Liking the look of the pattern I then sorted out how long the wrap needed to be.
The pattern for scarf is worked over 16 stitches so I went with multiples of 16 until I reached the length that he wanted.

Here is the result.
This is folded but you get the idea. It is 40 inches long and 20 inches deep. Deep enough to cover his shoulders without being too far down the back and long enough to drape with ease and not get in the way.

This shows the ridges and how it looks in each colour.
The pattern is easy to remember and works up fast. I enjoyed making this and the pattern is versatile. It would look lovely in pastel shades as a scarf and would be nice last minute gift as it really does work up quickly.
I used a 5mm hook so it has a nice drape. I changed  the colour on every Single (SC) row.
I would imagine this would be nice in any weight yarn with the appropriate hook or the next size up.
